In stark contrast to most vehicles, you do not remove the housing lid and replace the thermostat. Instead, you replace the entire housing. This limits leaking between the housing and the housing lid and provides for a very quick and efficient removal and installation of a new thermostat. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Pliers Step by Step : 1 Follow the upper radiator hose until you locate the black plastic housing that holds the thermostat. The housing is located between the engine block and the radiator fan, and has a hose extending from the back of it. 2 Locate the wiring harness on the top of the thermostat housing. Push in on the plastic tab on the center of the harness connector and pull the harness off the thermostat housing. 3 Pry both radiator hose clamps off the radiator hoses where they connect to the thermostat housing. Use a pair of pliers to pull the clamps off. 4 Pull the front radiator hose off the thermostat housing, then pull the back hose off the housing. 5 Place the back hose onto the new thermostat housing, then place the front hose onto the new thermostat housing. 6 Secure the hoses to the thermostat housing using the pliers. 7 Push the wiring harness connector onto the connector on the top of the thermostat housing until you hear it snap into place.

Fortunately, the procedure to change them is simple, takes only a few minutes and requires only a flat-blade screwdriver along with new coil packs. The procedure for changing coil packs in the Audi TT duplicates that of other VW and Audi models, as the two manufacturers share the same engine platforms. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Replacement coil packs Flat-blade screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Park your Audi TT on a level surface, and pop the car's hood. 2 Remove the plastic engine cover that surrounds the oil filler neck to reveal the coil packs. Remove any plastic screws securing the engine cover in place using your flat-blade screwdriver. 3 Position the head of the screwdriver underneath the top of the coil pack, pressing down on the screwdriver's handle to pry the coil pack loose. If your car has an electronic ignition system, the ignition module may have gone bad. If you have an electronic ignition system or a distributorless ignition system, skip the rest of the checks in this section. If your car has a non-electronic ignition system, follow the instructions in Chapter 12 to remove the distributor cap and look at the points. Do they open and close when you bump the starter? If not, adjust them so that they do and try to start the car again. If there's still no action, your points could be oxidized or fouled by a bit of grease or oil. Bump the engine so that the points are closed, and insert the tip of a screwdriver, nail file, matchbook cover, or feeler gauge between them to rub the point surfaces and eliminate the oxidation or dirt. If you still can't get the engine to turn over, move on to the next section.
